Georgian Lawyers for Independent Profession: Study Visit to The Hague

Georgian Lawyers for Independent Profession and the Legal Profession Development Center are organizing a study visit from June 18 to 27 to The Hague, Netherlands. During the visit, participants will have the opportunity to learn about leading international law institutions, including the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the International Criminal Court (ICC). Within the framework of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, the role and functions of the HCCH in the context of private international law will be discussed, as well as the impact of The Hague Conventions on international civil and commercial relations. Special attention will be given to the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, its practical implementation, procedural challenges and main issues, mechanisms for child return, and cooperation between central authorities. At the International Court of Justice, participants will learn about the Court’s mandate and functions, procedures for resolving inter-state disputes, and case law including significant cases. Within the framework of the International Criminal Court, the Court’s mandate and jurisdiction will be discussed, including major international crimes, procedural stages, and practical aspects. This experience will significantly contribute to deepening knowledge in international law, developing practical skills, and expanding professional networks.
