GLIP members are undertaking an educational visit to the Office of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), an intergovernmental organization in the field of private international law that administers several international conventions, protocols, and soft law instruments. The Hague Conference was first convened by Tobias Asser in 1893 in The Hague. In 1911, Asser received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in private international law, notably his achievements related to the HCCH. After World War II, the Hague Conference was established as an international organization. Georgia has been a member of the HCCH since March 1, 2007, when the HCCH Statute entered into force for Georgia, marking the official start of its membership; however, Georgia had joined several HCCH conventions even earlier, prior to official membership.
